For the 2025/2026 membership year, PRANZ has moved from a home-built spreadsheet to a new club membership system called HivePass.
PRANZ’s mission is to facilitate Packrafting in New Zealand through advocacy for the sport and access to rivers. PRANZ is affiliated to both the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ, and Whitewater NZ.
Membership is $45 for a year. The membership year runs from 1st July – 30th June. A membership renewal email will be sent out at the start of June. Unfortunately, no pro-rata payment is possible but if you join PRANZ for the first time after 1st April your membership will extend to the following year.
We will collect and store any data you provide in our Airtable database. This information will only be shared within the committee and event organisers.
Why should I join?
- As a member, you can participate in PRANZ events: some events are free for members, and others have an event fee to cover event expenses.
- New members (or those renewing for the 2024-2025 year) will be given access to the International Packrafting Instructor Association – Packrafter Level 1 Theory Module. This contains a huge amount of information to help you get started on your packrafting journey.
Once you have become a member, send an email to secretary@packrafting.org.nz to get a free code. - Each member counts as another supporter of FMC and WWNZ. The more supporters these organisations have, the louder their voice when it comes to advocating for our recreational opportunities.
- You become eligible to enter into FMC competitions, apply for training and expedition scholarships.
- PRANZ is run by volunteers, and we don’t want to see those volunteers being out of pocket… The fee helps cover a few of the expenses of running this association, so our volunteers can just concentrate on doing the work, without having to fund expenses for members out of their own pockets…
Where does that money go?
- PRANZ pays a (small) affiliation fee to FMC to help strengthen Packrafting advocacy.
- Towards maintaining and developing this website and PRANZ supported resources.
- To cover some costs of volunteers who run events that are free for PRANZ members.
- A small amount of each fee goes into (very) slowly building up PRANZ funds: For future projects which could involve training subsidies, maybe legal fees for the court battle to prevent a company damming a fantastic packrafting river… The future is uncertain, and PRANZ wants to be in a position to help defend our packrafting opportunities.
