FMC announces Packrafting Training Scholarships

FMC and PRANZ want to help you learn what to do when this happens…

FMC is pleased to support the work of the Packrafting Association of NZ (PRANZ) by offering up to 15 safety training scholarships of $300.  The aim of the scholarship is to encourage the spread of Pack-rafting water skills and safety awareness among FMC members from a non-river background. The scholarships are part of the support that FMC is providing to Pack-rafting as part of the Outdoor Community campaign.

The ideal recipient will have a proven history of leading outdoor trips for clubs and groups. It helps if you’ve done some Pack-rafting or Kayaking before, but its not essential. We’re after people who will be active in sharing the knowledge they gain on the course, and be an advocate for proper training and safety awareness among Pack-rafters.

The scholarships will be valid for use in the 2017/18 summer season, for courses run by Packrafting New Zealand. These courses are usually run near Te Anau and are currently the only Pack-rafting-specific safety and skills courses available in NZ.

To apply for the scholarship, you must be a current member of a FMC affiliated club, or current FMC individual supporter. Don’t worry, PRANZ is working hard to set up its membership systems in the next few weeks, so that you are able to join PRANZ, and therefore be a member of an FMC affiliated Club.

All scholarship recipients will be required to provide a Pack-rafting related article and photos for publication in Wilderlife.nz and/or Backcountry.

If this sounds like you, apply for a scholarship online.

Applications close by 31 November, with recipients announced early December. Courses are planned for early 2018, and it will be the responsibility of the scholarship recipients to book themselves onto a suitable course with the training provider.
